Be careful what you look for, because the more you look for it, the more you'll find it.
There is one habit that we often indulge in on a day-to-day basis that is common, but unhelpful—one that most of the time we don't even realise we're doing.
It's like searching for green items in a colourful image and, unexpectedly, discovering an important lesson in perspective.
Recently, I've been addressing this habit head-on. It's a practice that influences our outlook and it has the potential to make or break our entire day.
Take a moment to look at the image below. It's a burst of colours, textures, and shapes. But (and go with me here), let's focus solely on the green items within the image.
Now, something intriguing unfolds. As you actively seek out the green elements, your perception shifts. Suddenly, the once-prominent purples, yellows, and reds fade into the background, almost disappearing from your conscious awareness.
This phenomenon matches our everyday experience. What we choose to focus on and actively seek, we invariably find. When we fixate on pain and problems, they become the sole lens through which we perceive the world. They appear everywhere, dominating our view of everything around us. If you look for pain in your body, you find it. If you look for problems in your day, you will find them.
But, consider this alternative: what if we dared to change the colours that we look for in our lives every single day?
What if we consciously tried to seek out the joys and successes that often hide in plain sight? Just as those green elements emerged when you shifted your gaze in the image, you'll find that happiness and positivity reveal themselves when you actively seek them out.
I promise you, that this change in perspective can bring more light into your life. It's a simple yet transformative shift and one that fosters a renewed sense of appreciation for the myriad colours that make up your unique journey. It will also exponentially transform your well-being.
So, I invite you to try it out. Embrace the power of changing the colours you look for in life. Seek out joy, celebrate successes, and watch as the world around you becomes a brighter, more vibrant place.
I've been focusing on the different colours in my life recently, and I am healthier and happier as a result. The less appealing colours are fading in the background and don't dominate my everyday experience anymore. What a pleasure!
Have you ever tried shifting your focus from problems to joys?
Feel free to share your experiences below; I'd love to hear your stories of how changing the colours that you focus on can change the course of your whole life.
